Government vows action on rude ADSP
The Madras High Court on Wednesday disposed of a public interest litigation after Government gave assurance that action would be initiated against the errant ADSP Pandiarajan and also the licence to relocate the TASMAC shop to Samalapuram getting cancelled.

The first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar on recording the submission made by Advocate General R Muthukumaraswamy said “In view of cancellation of the relocated site and the action initiated against the errant police officer and in view of our order directing the two injured be provided treatment in government hospital of their own choice, the writ petition is disposed of.”
The first bench in its order on noting said, “It is needless to say that the liquor shop be relocated in accordance with law keeping in view the judgments of the court”.

It also held that “As far as the injured are concerned, they may be examined in any government hospital of their own choice and if necessary they be provided treatment and all the expenses will be borne by the state government.”
Based on the brutal attack, when the first bench commenced its sitting for the day, advocate K Balu and activist K R Traffic Ramaswamy mentioned the matter requesting the bench to give the issue an urgent hearing.
Balu, during his arguments had cited judgements which stated that when people have expressed their displeasure over running of the shop in that place, the court cannot allow the shop to be run at that place.
Residents end stir as demands accepted
The two-day protest concluded around 7.30 pm on Wednesday after their demands were met. Protesters said that all the 27 arrested persons were released and that the district administration has assured not to open any TASMAC outlet at Samalapuram.
“Police also assured that departmental action would be taken on the ADSP after inquiry. So we have called off the protest. We will resume protests if any of the assurances are not fulfilled. In continuation of the protest against opening a new TASMAC outlet at Samalpuram here, some of the protesters began an indefinite fast from Tuesday evening condemning the assault on women and villagers.
On Wednesday, the protesters had sought dismissal of the Additional Superintendent of Police (ADSP) A. Pandiarajan, police officers and policemen who attacked the women protesters. They also wanted assistance to be given to victims of the lathi charge to undergo treatment. Police had asked the fasting protesters to leave but they had refused. They were booked and taken to a marriage hall in Palladam, where they continued the fast.
Meanwhile, representatives of various political parties petitioned Tirupur District Collector S Jayanthi over the issue. Later that day the collector passed an order not to open the new outlet at Samalapuram.
