According to the police, the theft could have been committed on Sunday. The incident came to light when the officer in charge of the treasury Edwin Rajkumar came to the office, on Monday morning, and was shocked to see the front door broken open. On going in he realised that the stamp papers were stolen.

However, a case was registered only during the late hours of the day after ascertaining the value of the stolen stamp papers. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the miscreants had taken away stamp papers worth Rs 20 lakh and court fees stamp papers for Rs 5.08 lakh.

The police said that these stamp papers will be invalid and cannot be used as they have a serial number and the user would be easily nabbed. A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and two special teams have been formed to nab the miscreants.
