Debts drive family of four to suicide pact

Four of a family committed suicide at Thiruvanai Koil on Tuesday. The bodies of the two children and mother were found completely splattered with turmeric paste and the father was found hanging in the hall of the three-storied house on Nelson street, at Thiruvanaikaval.

It is said that the kids and the wife were alleged to be poisoned by the father before he hung himself. The police suspect that heavy debts have forced the family to commit suicide.

According to the Srirangam police, S Vishwanathan (35) a foot wear dealer, his wife V Deivayanai (34), and their children V Gunasekaran (9) and 18-month-old Nishanthini were all found dead inside the single bedroom house. It is alleged that Viswanathan had poisoned his wife and children and also strangled them. When the relatives who resided close found no response when they tried to connect with the family informed the police. 

The bodies were sent for a post-mortem. Investigations revealed that Viswanathan used to transact money for interest. Sangeetha from Tiruverumbur had borrowed over Rs 50 lakh from him for interest she neither gave him the interest nor the capital. In the suicide note Viswanathan has mentioned that Sangeetha, Mary Prabha, Chandramohan and Murugesan were responsible for the death. Now, all 4 have been arrested.
