Civic poll preparations to be over by month end: State Election Commissioner

State Election Commissioner M Malik Feroze Khan on Thursday said that 90 per cent of the preliminary works for conducting the civic body elections has been over. He was here to monitor the preparatory works for local body polls in Tiruchy, Ariyalur, and Perambalur districts.

He chaired a meeting at the Tiruchy Collectorate and after the review meeting announced that the Commission is almost ready to conduct the much-awaited civic elections. 

Speaking to reporters, Feroz Khan said, based on the final electoral roll released by the Election Commission on January 5, 2017, the review meeting discussed the drafting of the ward-wise electoral roll. The list of polling stations and the requirements of the election officials to man the booths were also part of the deliberation with the officials from the three districts, he added. 

He further stated that over 90 per cent of the preliminary works for the conduct of the civic body election has been completed. “The entire process would be over by May end,” he said. 

He clarified that the deposit amount paid by the candidates in the recently cancelled civic body polls are being returned. 

The State Election Commissioner also inspected the accessories stocked in the Tiruchy Collectorate for the local body elections on Thursday.
