Gang attacks Kovai gold unit employee, loots 730 grams

A four-member gang reportedly assaulted an employee of a goldsmith in Coimbatore and took away 730 gm of gold jewellery early on Saturday. The Big Bazaar police said that the incident took place in the unit owned by S Gunasekaran at Kempatti Colony.

Police, after investigations, quoting an employee said, “Nagaraj and Saravanan were making jewellery at the unit around 3 am on Saturday. It is said that Saravanan went to buy tea when the gang wearing masks allegedly beat Nagaraj, who was alone there.” They also allegedly sprinkled chilli powder on his face.

Police further said that Saravanan on returning to the shop reportedly found Nagaraj unconscious and alerted the owner of the unit and the police. Finger print experts and the police dog squad were pressed into service.

The police collected footage from the CCTV camera in front of the workshop and other cameras in the vicinity to identify the accused. 

Special teams were formed to nab the accused. The police also suspect the role of employees of the workshop in the incident and picked them for questioning.
