Tiruchy couple held for circulating counterfeit currencies at Keeranur

A Tiruchy couple was arrested by Keeranur police for circulating counterfeit currencies at two shops at Keeranur town on Monday evening.

Sources said, a couple came to a provision store at Keeranur in an Omni van and they paid the bill in currencies of Rs 2, 000. After they left, when the shop owner verified the currencies, he found that they were fake. Immediately, he alerted the Keeranur police who sent an alert to check posts and other police personnel.

Couple grilled 

Meanwhile, the same couple was found purchasing goods at a shop in Kulathur near Keeranur. On information, a police team rushed to the spot and apprehended them. During investigations, they confessed to their circulating the counterfeit currencies and a sum of Rs 19,500 in fake currencies was confiscated from them. The accused have been identified as Abdul Sukkur (35) and Abhina Begum (32), residents of Palakkarai in Tiruchy town. 

Meanwhile, a search was organised at their residence in which the police found that the couple was in the habit of printing fake currencies . Subsequently, the police seized a colour photocopier, printing machine and a cutting machine. The police also confiscated fake currencies worth Rs 5 lakh. Further investigations are on.
