Farmers to get Rs 403 crore for samba crop loss
Insurance companies released a total of Rs 403 crore, including the state’s share of Rs 168.66 crore, towards compensation for the samba crop of 2015 - 2016 under the National Agriculture Insurance Scheme (NAIS), a release stated on Tuesday.

The released amount will cover as many 2.96 lakh farmers in 22 districts. The amount credited directly into bank accounts of the farmers should reach them in the next few days. The state paid Rs 51.46 crore towards the premium subsidy of 50 per cent to the farmers.
As the paddy failed in the said duration, the insurance companies worked out the compensation to be paid to as many as 2,96,550 farmers. Of the total sum released, the farmers from Nagapattinam would receive Rs 205.5 crore, while Tiruvarur farmers would receive Rs 101.7 crore and Cuddalore farmers would receive Rs 45.15 crore.
Similarly, farmers from Tiruvallur district would receive Rs 25.38 crore, Sivagana district would receive Rs 8.1 crore, Kancheepuram district would receive Rs 5.2 crore, Ramanathapuram district would receive Rs 3.7 crore, Virudhanabar district would receive Rs 2.54 crore, Tiruvannamalai district would receive Rs 2.5 crore, and Thanjavur district would receive Rs 1.42 crore as compensation for crop failure.
A total of 10.14 lakh farmers were enrolled under the NAIS scheme in 2015-2016.
