The deceased identified as Muniyasamy alias ‘Thoppuli’ Muniyasamy, son of Rajapandian, an AIADMK functionary at Madurai, had been missing since June 13 and his wife Uma Maheswari had lodged a complaint.

A special police team was formed it found that Muniyasamy was a history-sheeter and several cases including murder and attempt to murder, were pending against him. The families of Rajapandian and DMK functionary VK Gurusamy had an enmity between them for long and therefore family members of Gurusamy were interrogated.

On Monday evening, Gurusamy’s son VKG Mani, and his relative, Pazhani Murugan, surrendered before the VAO of Vandiyur. They confessed that they had kidnapped Muniyasamy on June 13 from Vandiyur ring road, murdered him and burnt his body at Thondi in Ramanathapuram district.

Based on their confession, police personnel recovered the charred remains of Muniyasamy and produced the duo in the court. Police said that the enmity between the two families existed for long and there were equal murders in both the families. The murder of Muniyasamy is 15th in the list, they added.
