GSTN has already assured stakeholders that all their data will be stored in an encrypted form and only the taxpayer and the assessing officer will have access to the information. The company has been set up primarily to provide IT infrastructure and services to central and state governments, taxpayers and other stakeholders for the implementation of GST.

With just two days left for the rollout of the biggest tax reform since Independence, GSTN Chief Executive Prakash Kumar assured stakeholders full safety of data, saying “there is nothing to worry”. “We have taken all care and there is nothing to worry about.

Our system is run on Linux software and all data are safe,” Kumar told the media. The global malware attack, Petya had disrupted functioning at some central banks and many large corporations in Europe on Tuesday. In India, the attack has hit the functioning of one of the terminals of India’s largest container port JNPT at Nava Sheva.

Transparent GST
In an effort to allay fears of vendors in the state, Finance Minister D Jayakumar said on Wednesday that GST will be implemented in a transparent manner. Speaking at a seminar conducted by Tamil Nadu Commercial Department, Jayakumar said, “To overcome the fear among the public and industries, we are planning to conduct awareness programmes at 360 places,” he said. He added that GST would lead to rise in production.
