He was accompanied by other search committee members Dr N Sundaradevan, IAS (Retd) and Prof K Anantha Padmanabhan, former director, IIT, Kanpur.

In May, P Duraisamy and PP Chellathurai were appointed as the Vice Chancellors for Madras and Madurai Kamaraj universities respectively. However, for Anna University, the Governor ordered formation of a new search committee.

The Anna University V-C post has been vacant for over a year now. The University also held its convocation without a V-C, which saw resistance from many staff members of the university.

After the allegations of corruption, this year an amendment was promulgated to the existing laws related to the appointment of V-Cs. The ordinance goes on to specify the qualifications of the members of the search committee.

Now, the committee for all the state-run universities must have a retired judge of the Supreme Court or a distinguished academician, which will be the Governor’s nominee.
