Pleading that Perarivalan who had sought parole for over two years to attend to his ailing father, Payas stated he was writing in favour of his co accused as he knew the trauma the latter was currently undergoing as he had also gone through a similar predicament. It was due to such mental torture that he had sought mercy killing for himself.

As a co-convict in the Vellore prison, Perarivalan had told him various incidents about his father. It is also said that he had also wanted to come out only after proving himself innocent. But, the inordinate delay in granting him parole made me wonder whether officials ever understood the trauma of prisoners, added Payas. Stating that no man should undergo punishment where he was unable to meet his father when the latter was alive or dead, Perarivalan should not be given this mental agony, Payas pleaded.
