While DMK working president and Opposition leader MK Stalin condemned it and demanded a CBI probe into the whole issue, PMK Founder Dr S Ramadoss wanted the Madurai Bench of the High Court to treat this (concealing the I-T letter in gutka scam) as a separate case and order a CBI probe.

The sharp reactions from the Opposition leaders came a day after Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan, on a petition filed in the High Court challenging the two-year extension given to DGP TK Rajendran, despite his name figuring in the gutka scam, had stated that her office had not received any letter from the I-T department, directing the government to take action against those involved in the scam.

Condemning the Chief Secretary’s action of ‘blacking out’ the gutka scam in her affidavit filed in the High Court, Stalin sought to know how she could file such an affidavit after Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had told the Assembly that the DVAC was probing the scam. In a statement, Ramadoss accused the state of shielding corrupt officials.
