Actor Dhanush's caravan fined Rs 80k for power theft

Electricity Board (TNEB) had levied a fine of Rs 80,000 for the caravan, used by actor Dhanush, for allegedly stealing electricity from a temple at Muthurengapuram near Andipatti in Theni district, on Thursday.

On the occasion of Aadi Perukku, Dhanush along with his family members had gone to his family temple of Kasturi Angammal Temple at Muthurengapuram and had offered special prayers.

Before Dhanush’s party reached the temple, a caravan was brought there and electricity supply for it was drawn illegally from the temple connection. Some of the residents noticed it and had informed the TNEB staff. After Dhanush left the temple, the TNEB staff reached the spot and carried out an investigation.

It was found that the caravan had drawn electricity from 7 am to 3 pm. Following that the usage was calculated and it was fixed at 7,000 units. The rate for it was fixed at Rs 15,000 and extra Rs 65,000 was fined for drawing electricity illegally from the temple connection.

As Dhanush was not present, driver of the caravan Veerappan was served the fine order.
