A lawyer attached to the Congress party staged a protest atop a cell phone tower at Kovilpatti on Saturday. He demanded action against top BJP leaders for the attack on the party’s vice president Rahul Gandhi on Friday in Gujarat.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi was allegedly attacked by BJP cadre in Gujarat while he went to inspect the recent flood ravages.

The incident had ruffled the feathers of the Congress cadre across the country. They staged protests at various states condemning the incident. At Kovilpatti, Ayyalusamy, district lawyers’ wing president of the Congress, climbed atop a cell phone tower located adjacent to the Kovilpatti DSP office in the morning and threatened to commit suicide.

Ayyalusamy blamed the BJP leaders for the attack on Rahul Gandhi and demanded their arrest. He also blamed the Gujarat government for remaining a mute spectator during the attack and demanded dissolution of the Gujarat government. He refused to come down even after policemen held talks with him. Then officials from the Revenue Department and Congress functionaries convinced him to come down from the cellphone tower. Once he came down, police warned Ayyalusamy not to repeat such protests in future and set him free.
