CoP, two other officers bag President’s Medal
City Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan is among the three officials, who have been conferred with the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service on the occasion of 71st Independence Day.

have been selected for one of the most coveted awards, are SN Seshasai, Additional Commissioner of Police (Headquarters), Greater Chennai Police and C Raja, Additional Superintendent of Police, Core Cell Security Branch CID, Chennai. They are among the 93 officials selected from across the country and from various wings for the honour.
Twenty-three other officials from Tamil Nadu have been conferred with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service. They are Deepak M Damor, DIG (Coimbatore Range), Anisa Husain, DIG (Villupuram Range), V Vanitha, DIG (Coastal Security Group, Chennai), G Karthikeyan, DIG (Dindigul Range), K Bhavaneeswari, JC (Traffic, Chennai-South), PK Senthil Kumari, SP (Commercial Crime Investigation Wing, Guindy), N Z Asiammal (SP, CS-CID), M Baskaran, ADSP (Headquarters, Nilgiri district), V Ashok Kumar, DSP (Prohibition Enforcement Wing, Tiruvannamalai), G Sankar, AC (Royapettah), PA Sundaram, DSP (Idol Wing-CID, Guindy), K Vasanthaselvan, DSP (Orgnaised Investigation Unit Headquarters, Chennai), S Panbalan, DSP (Special Task Force, Erode), K Dhanasekaran, Assistant Commandant (Spl Police 13th battalion, Poonamallee), C Rajesh, Inspector (Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Erode), O Vetriselvam, Inspector (Spl Intelligence Cell, Coimbatore), S Nelson, Inspector (Traffic Investigation Wing, Tirupur), J Nagarajan, Inspector (District Special Branch, Madurai), K Mohan, Inspector, (Dharapuram Traffic Police), S Sekar, SSI (Police Computer Wing, SCRB, Chennai), U Arumugam, SSI (Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Chennai IV), A Iruthayaraj, SSI (Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Headquarters-Chennai) and L Jospehraj, SSI (TN Commando School).
The late Shankar Rao, Platoon Commander from Chhattisgarh, is the lone awardee of President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, while 190 officials from across the country have been conferred with Police Medal for Gallantry.
In the state
At the Independence Day function at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will present President of India medals and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s medals to police, vigilance and anti-corruption, fire and rescue services, prison and home guards, and civil defence personnel from the state. A total of 854 medals under various categories will be presented during the ceremony.
Under President Medal category, two policemen will receive Gallantry Medals, 21 the Distinguished Service Medals, and 145 Meritorious Service Medals. For fire and rescue personnel, as many as 10 will receive Gallantry Medals and 36 Meritorious Service Medals. Nearly 21 personnel will receive the Meritorious Service Medals in correctional service and 27 civil defence and home guards personnel Meritorious Service Medals on the occasion.
Similarly, the Chief Minister will confer Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Medal on 589 personnel.
In the morning, the CM will unfurl the tricolour at Fort St George and will receive the guard of honour. After the medals ceremony, the CM will participate in a tea party hosted at Raj Bhavan.
