Wrong switch helps people nab temple thief in Perambalur

In an interesting incident on Monday, a thief who entered a temple in Perambalur, mistakenly pressed the switch of the drum player instead of the lights. Sound of drums alerted the public who rushed into the temple, caught him and handed over to the police.

Sources said, residents of Thanganagaram in Kunnam, Perambalur, heard the beating of drum of the Mariamman temple in the wee hours of Monday. Shocked to hear the music at an odd hour, rushed towards the temple. When they reached there, they found a man attempting to escape with the crown of the temple kalasam which was worth Rs 15,000. The public seized the valuable from him and began beating him. Subsequently, they informed the Kunnam police led by the inspector Siva Subramanian reached the spot and arrested the man. He was identified as A Paramasivam (44) of Parankiam village in Cuddalore district. When the thief was questioned, police and public were amused that Paramasivam had mistaken the switch of the musical instrument for lights and pressed it after lifting the crown.
