Southern Railway 15-day clean campaign drive from today
Are you one of those regular rail commuters who had felt that your numerous complaints about lack of hygiene onboard trains, platforms and stations or even poor quality of food and water sold at railway stations had fallen on deaf ears thus far? And this time around, you don’t have to go knocking on officials’ doors. From eliciting public feedback on the quality of water supplied and hygiene at stations and aboard trains, officials of Southern Railway (SR) would take complaints from the travellers.
As a part of Indian Railways nationwide Swachhta Pakhwada program, a fortnight long cleanliness drive, SR officials would come calling from August 16.
Each day, intensive cleanliness efforts focusing on key areas, involving officers, staff, NGOs and volunteers, would be done till the end of the month. Starting with an interaction with even religious bodies and school children besides the usual stakeholders, each day’s program has been themed differently.
Titled Swacch stations and Swachh trains, two days each have specially been ‘reserved’ for station and train cleanliness, which also include train inspections, not only in pit lanes, but also at stations.
Two days have also reserved for Swacch Neer (clean water) when intensive inspection of water installations, including water sources and filter plants would be undertaken. Going by an official communique from SR, officials would even get on board trains to check the quality of linen. Similar trips would be made by officials to the vending units and samples of food would be collected.
Special focus on intensive cleaning of all stations other than A1 and A category would be done during the drive. SR has proposed to do a comprehensive review of the two week long drive on August 31.
