Returning from his week-long overseas tour on Sunday morning, Stalin, reacting to media query on Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling the shots in the AIADMK, appreciated media’s acknowledgement of his statement and said, “Story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are done in New Delhi. OPS and EPS are performing their roles well according to the take.”
Asked about the Chief Minister announcing a commission of inquiry to probe the late chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s death, Stalin said, “Not only DMK, other parties and even non-political groups have been raising doubts about Jayalalithaa’s death and demanding a fair probe into it, particularly by the CBI.
Even Panneerselvam, after a so called interaction with Jayalalithaa’s spirit following a 40-minute meditation at the memorial, had demanded a probe led by a Supreme Court judge. Moreover, he too had sought a CBI probe then.”
Stalin alleged that the same OPS has settled for a state-level inquiry now. “It has raised doubts whether Panneerselvam has agreed for a commission and not for an inquiry commission,” he added.
Commenting on the issue of the government converting Jayalalithaa’s Poes Garden residence into a memorial, Stalin said that it should be done as per the rule of law. Describing the government’s current move as legally incorrect, the Leader of Opposition said they should wait for the government’s next course of action.
Meanwhile, his party spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP TKS Elangovan took a dig at OPS for his “lawyer comment” on Stalin and said, “One need not be a lawyer. All one requires is common sense, to speak about the procedures to be followed by the government while acquiring a private property.” Earlier, Panneeselvam had questioned the competence of Stalin (to comment on the issue) and said that DMK working president was not a lawyer.
