“I strongly suspect that he died of anaesthesia overdose. But the hospital management claims that he died of heart attack. I have approached the Police Commissioner seeking strong action against the hospital authorities and persons responsible for the death,” he added. The victim Ravichandran (48) of Namagiripettai village, Namakkal, is the only son of the MP’s elder brother PR Ganapathy. It is learnt that about a month ago he suffered a fracture in the right leg in an accident.

He underwent a surgery in a private hospital on the Tiruchy road in Coimbatore and was discharged. It is learnt that he was suffering from shoulder pain due to a tendon tear or dislocation over the last few days and informed the doctor here when he came for a review on Saturday.

“His family agreed for a simple surgical procedure to set it right. Ravichandran was given anaesthesia around 9.15 am and taken inside the operation theatre. “Around 12.15 pm, his wife informed me that my nephew had died during surgery,” explained the MP.  The MP wanted a team of doctors to perform autopsy to find the cause of his death. Post mortem is likely to be performed at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday. City police sources said that they would probe the issue in detail and take action on those found guilty.
