Armed gang robs woman of jewels in Tirunelveli
In a bizarre incident, a 48-year-old woman was robbed by an armed gang who entered her house on the pretext of giving marriage invitation at Tirunelveli, on Saturday.

The victim, Gomathi, wife of Vallavan, running a tea shop, was alone in the house at Sindhupoonthurai at Tirunelveli, on Saturday night.
At 9 pm, men who knocked on the front door, told her that they wanted to invite the couple for a marriage. When she asked them to hand over the invite to her husband, they explained that they had come only because her husband had asked them to give it to her.
Trusting them, Gomathi opened the door. The gang barged inside, gagged her, tied her hands and threatened her with knives. They opened the bureau and walked away with 35 sovereigns of gold jewels.
After the robbers left, Gomathi managed to free herself and raised an alarm and also called her husband. Vallavan rushed home and informed the police.
Police personnel, who arrived immediately, carried out investigations at the spot. Dog squad and fingerprint experts were also brought to the scene of crime.
