Stalin asks Governor to order CBI probe into medical admission scam allegations
Drawing a parallel between the dual nativity certificate scam rocking medical admission in Tamil Nadu and ‘Vyapam’ scam in Madhya Pradesh, Leader of Opposition M K Stalin has urged Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao to order a CBI to probe rank list released on August 22 for admitting students on government quota in state run and private medical colleges in the state.

Demanding a thorough probe against candidates who have managed to feature in the rank list by furnishing dual nativity certificates, Stalin said the whole truth would not be unearthed if complaints were lodged merely against a couple of candidates who had secured admission by producing dual nativity certificates.
Claiming that seats reserved for sports persons and disabled in the 3,382 management quota seats in government and private medical colleges were not fully filled, Stalin alleged that such unfilled seats have been given to general category candidates and it has created unrest among parents of medical aspirants. Condemning the ruling AIADMK for allegedly helping other state students to secure admission under government quota in state run and private medical institutions in the state using dual nativity certificates, Stalin, in a statement, said that rule 3 (h) in the prospectus states that admission would be cancelled if it were found to be secured using dual nativity certificates and criminal action would be initiated against such students and their parents.
Alleging that the going rate for MBBS seats was Rs 1 crore, whereas the annual fee in government medical colleges was only Rs 13,600 for MBBS and Rs 11,600 for BDS, the DMK working president said that it has raised doubts about whether some candidates have produced dual nativity certificates to feature in the rank list to utilize the modest fees in government institutions.
Elaborating the formalities involved in obtaining a nativity certificate, mainly the stamp of approval given by Tahsildars, Stalin wondered who had pressured Tahsildars to issue nativity certificates to such undeserving candidates.
Urging the Governor to order a CBI probe into the issue in his capacity as chancellor of Dr MGR Medical University, Stalin reasoned, “Since dual nativity certificate is an issue involving two states, CBI should investigate the rank list released on August 22 in public and private medical institutions under government quota and also members of the selection committee which prepared the rank list and people who were responsible for issuing dual nativity certificates.”
