The wild elephant’s intrusion in the estate area had triggered panic among residents over the last few days and a 62-year-old man was found trampled to death on Saturday last.
Following his death villagers staged an agitation. In order to bring peace to the area, forest department officials deployed two ‘kumkis’ to either capture or chase the wild elephant back into the jungle.
The kumkis did a good job and tried to chase and guide the wild one into the forest. Unfortunately, amid operations, the wild elephant suddenly collapsed and died, police said.
The forest officials were actually contemplating to tranquilise and catch it. Investigations are on to find the reason for the death, they said.
