“We have protested for the welfare of government employees,” said J Ganesan of JACTTO-GEO. Members of associations that split from the parent organisation met the CM. “As requested by the CM, we agreed to put off the protest till October 15. But, there are some associations, not in line with the decision, continuing the protest. They have disregarded the judgment by the Madurai bench.”

The other members of this sect of JACTTO-GEO reiterated that they have nothing to do with those organisations that have decided to continue the protest.

The JACTTO-GEO wants the new pension scheme to be scrapped and they urge the state government to implement the hike as that of the central employees. Till then they want 20% of interim relief. They have staged major protest and a token strikes, following which the government invited the leaders for talks. While one sect has taken into account the government’s request to wait and not to protest, the other sections has gone ahead with the agitation. “JACTTO-GEO has not spilt. We are the real ones,” said Ganesan.

Meanwhile, the Madras High Court has directed the leaders of two organisations of government employees to appear before it on September 15.

One of the leaders of the protesting faction, K Santhakumar, Convener of JACTTO-GEO Chennai district, said, “We plan to stay put in the Ezhilagam premises till our demands are met.”
