Yoga sessions in all government schools: Edappadi K Palaniswami

Yoga will be taught in all schools in Tamil Nadu as part of skill development of students and enhancing their physical strength, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said on Thursday.

“To enhance skills, ensure mental peace and physical strength of all students, yoga training will be given,” he said. Accordingly, yoga classes will be held in all schools, he said, but did not divulge when the programme will be rolled out.

Speaking at a function organised in the city to give away appointment orders to teachers, the Chief Minister underlined the AIADMK government’s commitment towards giving fillip to the education sector. He listed out the various initiatives in this regard. Palaniswami also said teachers had the responsibility of shaping a child by instilling discipline.

Reeling out the statistics of teacher recruitment in AIADMK regime, Palaniswami said a total of 40,433 full time teachers and 15,169 part-time teachers were appointed in the past six years. In addition to these figures, as many as 4,362 lab technician assistants too were recruited. He added that the State’s initiative to revise the syllabus would help the students to take any competitive exams conducted by the Centre or by any other bodies.

A total 2,315 postgraduate teachers along with 58 special teachers were issued appointment orders in the event, and Palaniswami claimed that the candidates were selected through a transparent process.
