Senthil Balaji’s kin, friends appear before I-T officials
Relatives and close aides of former minister and disqualified Aravakurichi MLA V Senthil Balaji appeared before the Income Tax officials here on Monday as they were summoned by the department after four days of raids on their houses and establishments.

Sources said that when Senthil Balaji was the transport minister, he had reportedly collected over Rs 4.50 crore from youth across the state promising them of employment in the transport department. Based on the complaint by the victims, the CB-CID police registered a case against Senthil Balaji and are in the process of arresting him.
Meanwhile, the I-T department officials commenced a search operation at as many as 13 spots, which lasted for four days, during which the officials raided the houses and establishments of Senthil Balaji’s close relative Thiagarajan, friends Navrang Subramanian, Sankar, Anand, Selvaraj, Subramani and Dharani Saravanan.
Sources said, the I-T department officials had seized documents worth Rs 100 crore and conducted a detailed inquiry. So far, more than 35 persons were inquired. Among them, as many as 10 persons, including Senthil Balaji’s brother Ashok Kumar, Thiagarajan, Navrang Subramanian and Sankar, were summoned at the Tiruchy Income Tax office.
Based on this, on Monday, Thiagarajan, Subramani and Swaminathan appeared before the officials of Income Tax in Tiruchy and reportedly gave detailed statements them. It is said that it is mandatory that after the team of property assessment attached to Income Tax, the accused are to undergo inquiry before the Revenue Intelligence Wing officials. Meanwhile, the persons, who were summoned, came to the office by hiring autos to avoid media glare. Heavy posse of police personnel was on duty to curb any untoward incident outside the Income Tax office.
