The HC had last week issued an interim injunction preventing the government from taking school students to MGR anniversary celebrations. Talking to the reporters before leaving for Coimbatore, Stalin said the court had ordered against sending students to such functions, but they were taken in buses and made to attend the anniversary in violation of the court directive. Alleging that the government was wasting taxpayers’ money for MGR anniversary celebrations, Stalin said they would not object if the government really conducts the functions, as they should be conducted.
Questioning the motive of the government in shifting Sivaji Ganesan’s statue to the just opened memorial in Adyar, the he said the statue was removed from Marina because it bore the name of his party chief M Karunanidhi. Earlier, the late CM Jayalalithaa found it an eyesore, and so also the incumbent CM Palaniswami, he said.
Later, speaking at a public meeting in Udhagamandalam, after unveiling a bust of CN Annadurai at the party office, Stalin doubted the death of Jayalalithaa and sought a CBI probe into the matter. He also alleged that the AIADMK government has remained in power without majority support.
