Dengue claims 5 lives in Salem, Tiruchy, Pudukkai
Even though the state government claims to have brought dengue under control, two more girls succumbed to fever without responding to treatment in Salem district.

Shivani, 7, daughter of Raja, a painter from Alamarathur Colony near Tharamangalam in Salem district, was hospitalised for fever a week ago.
She was admitted to a private hospital in Tharamangalam. As her fever intensified, the girl was taken to Salem Government Hospital on September 29. Despite treatment, the girl failed to recover and suffered from bouts of vomiting two days ago. She was then moved to the intensive care unit of the hospital.
However, Shivani died without responding to treatment on Wednesday morning. In another incident, Lathika, 7, daughter of Saravanan from Periagoundapuram near Valapadi was admitted to Salem GH for dengue a few days ago. She too failed to respond to treatment and died on Tuesday night.
Just a day ago, dengue had claimed the lives of three persons including a two year old girl in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts.
3 die in Thanjavur and Pudukkottai
Three persons, including two school children died of dengue symptoms in Pudukkottai and Thanjavur districts on Wednesday.
It is said, K Gokila (9), daughter of Karuppiah of Perungalur near Pudukkottai, suffered from high temperature and was rushed to Thanjavur Medical College. Despite undergoing treatment for more than nine days, she died on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, K Yazhini (12) of Veeraragavapuram near Aranthangi who was admitted in Thanajvur Medical College for high fever, died on Wednesday despite being treated for more than five days.
Similarly, Santhabai (80), wife of Ranganathan Rao of Sakojipandithar street in Melacauvery, was down with fever from October 2. She was admitted to a private hospital in Kumbakonam and as the condition worsened she was admitted to a private hospital in Thanjavur.
She was then sent back home and she died on Tuesday midnight. Health department officials said she was diagnosed with dengue positive and had other health complications too.
The officials said they would be conducting death audits for the cases in private hospitals. In the meantime, in Thanajvur, as many as 29 persons who have tested positive for dengue are being treated in hospitals.
