Hundreds of vehicles ply on the road daily to Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi. While traversing the bridge, tourists park their vehicles and take photos. Even small shops had mushroomed on the bridge and this leads to traffic congestion.

Sources said, recently High Court judges had visited the bridge to assess the safety conditions. After a thorough inspection they had told officials to stop parking of tourist vehicles on the bridge to avoid accidents and free flow of traffic.

Acting on their advice, the district administration has restricted vehicle parking on the bridge from Deepavali. Boards have been placed on both the ends of the bridge. It states that vehicles should not exceed a speed limit of 30 kmph on the bridge and spot fines would be levied on those who stop their vehicle, for a snap, on the bridge.
