Ganesan along with grandchild was on his way to a butcher shop in Anupanadi-Teppakulam road on Sunday morning. A gang which followed him hit his vehicle near the office of Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services(TNFRS) in Anupanadi. When Ganesan fell down along with his grandchild, the gang hacked him to death.
The gang then escaped from the spot. Onlookers informed the Teppakulam police, who rushed to the spot. They then recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. A case of murder was also booked.
Police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the murder. However, they suspect that since Ganesan was the main accused in a murder case a decade ago, the rival gang might have murdered him.
The second suspect is an advocate with whom Ganesan had a dispute recently regarding a property sale. Three persons, Vinoth, Karthick and ‘Kathi’ Thirumurugan have been picked up for interrogation in connection with the murder.
Another police source said that Ganesan was involved in Kangaroo courts and had earned many enemies. Therefore, anyone could have murdered him, added the source. In the meantime, his kin and supporters staged a road roko opposite Madurai GRH demanding immediate arrest of the gang.
