The Collector visited areas such as Achampatti, Metupatti, Nedunkulam and Chettikulam villages near Alanganallur and inspected several houses and shops there.
He advised the people to close the water cans and to constantly empty them before filling it up for the second time.
At Nedunkulam, the Collector inaugurated a special medical camp for dengue and interacted with the local people. He asked the doctors to refer the patients to Madurai GRH if they had continuous fever. He also distributed ‘Nilavembu Kashayam’ to the public at Nedunkulam.
The Collector then visited the Oomachikulam police station and inspected the waterlogged areas there. He also inspected the old vehicles in the police station and asked the policemen either to dispose of the old vehicles or clean them regularly as water logged in the vehicles would become a breeding ground for the Aedes mosquito, which caused dengue. Dengue has spread to all pockets in Madurai district and deaths due to it is on the rise daily.
Surprise checks
To counter its spread, Collector and officials are carrying out surprise checks and slapping fine on people who fail to maintain their house and to keep the shops clean. Collector had also been issuing repeated warnings to people to maintain their house clean and close all containers filled with fresh waters. Earlier, the Collector and Madurai Corporation Commissioner, Aneesh Sekhar, had carried out checks at the Corporation areas and collected a fine of Rs 10,000.
