Vellore industries look towards Andhra Pradesh

Vellore based industrialists have planned to set up an incubator based facility at Chittoor in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh following a lack of response from the Tamil Nadu government.

Revealing this to DT Next , industrialist K Nagarajan said they had sought an appointment with AP IT and communications technology minister Nara Lokesh in a bid to get some land in Chittoor district which abuts Vellore. 

Sources also revealed that they planned to set up an Electronic component manufacturing facility in different phases through three projects. The total cost of the three projects was around Rs.100 crore. 

The project’s first phase included manufacture of electronic connectors for mobiles and automotive and appliance electronics, the phase II included manufacture of IOT (Internet of Things) related products. Both phases were estimated at Rs.30 crore, sources said. Electronic Industries Chamber, it was said. 

Referring to this, VIT university chancellor G Viswanathan said ‘lack of response’ was the reason why these Vellore-based entrepreneurs were moving to AP. “Even in New Delhi, AP garnered more attention than TN which was a far cry from the days when TN was respected for its industry and politics,” he added.
