The victim identified as Baskar (54), of Ramayanpatti in Tirunelveli is working in TNSTC for over 20 years. Sources said that he was denied duty for nearly a month as he is with the faction of sidelined AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran.

The driver said that he was recently announced as general secretary of Dinakaran faction’s Anna Trade Union at Tirunelveli. That was the reason why TNSTC officials in the KTC Nagar depot in Tirunelveli denied him duty and have been asking him to denounce the position.

He also said that he was depressed and wanted to end his life. Baskar, who came to the Collectorate on a two-wheeler, parked it outside the entrance of the Collectorate and rushed towards the main building. While dousing himself with petrol, he was stopped by the police. Later, he was secured for questioning.
