Avail Central funds to undo damage to water bodies: TMC

Alleging that people were suffering during monsoon every year due to conversion of water spread areas and water bodies into commercial complexes and educational institutions, TMC, in a resolution adopted at its district presidents meeting, said that it would not be necessary to act on a war footing if the routine works were done during normal times with sincerity. Urging the state to take cognizance of the fact, the TMC district presidents meeting chaired by its leader GK Vasan asked the ruling dispensation in the state to avail of necessary funds from the Centre for the works.
The meeting also resolved to urge the state and the Centre to partner in harvesting rain water. Accusing the state government of not harvesting flood water, Vasan said that proper planning would help save it.
They also adopted another resolution demanding the state to hold the local body elections immediately.
