Headmistress in soup over fake caste certificate

Thanjavur district education department on Saturday suspended a headmistress, who had submitted a fake community certificate for the appointment.

It is said, Christina Baby (50), working as a headmistress of Panchayat Union Primary school in Nariyanur near Ammapettai, who belonged to backward community had submitted a an ST certificate when she got the appointment as teacher in 1997. 

Since there were petitions against her from various quarters, the education department officials organised a series of investigations. Subsequently, she was found to have submitted a fake community certificate and got the appointment under the ST reservation category. 

Later, the officials, who verified the certificates, conducted an individual inquiry in which the teacher had reportedly confessed to the forgery. 

On Friday evening, Christina Baby was served the suspension order which was received by her on Saturday.
