Body of Thanjavur youth exhumed from Vennaru river bed after 43 days

A youth, who went missing 43 days ago, was found murdered and his body was exhumed from the Vennaru river bed on Monday.

It is said that he was reportedly murdered by his friends due to previous enmity and the police had arrested three persons in connection with the crime.

It is said, A Saravanan (18) of A Y A Nadar Road in North Gate area who was a student of catering technology went missing from his house since September 30. As he could not be traced, they lodged a complaint with the West police who registered a man missing case.

Meanwhile, one of Saravanan’s friends M Nandakumar (23, of Mission Street in North Gate surrendered before the VAO of Karanathai on Saturday evening and confessed to the crime.

 Nandakumar confessed that he along with his friends A Anand (19) of Irattai Pillayarkoil Street and S Navaneethakrishnan (19) of Karanthai, Ajith (19) and another Saravanan (19) had murdered Saravanan over an altercation. Based on the confession by Nandakumar, the police secured other friends of Saravanan, except Ajit and another Saravanan.

On Monday, the accused identified the spot where they had buried Saravanan and the police exhumed the body in the presence of R Thangaprabakaran, Tahsildar, Thanjavur, M Tamilselvan, DSP, Thanjavur.
