DK president K Veeramani said the bench which heard the appeal against the move had left the decision to the state government itself and warned Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami not to bow to pressures to make Vande Mataram compulsory.
When former Chief Minister Rajaji ordered that Vande Mataram should be sung at the start of the Assembly proceedings, it was opposed by many legislators, resulting in the withdrawal of the order, Veeramani said.
