The ghee will be supplied in 15 kg tins and will be used to keep the deepam burning for 11 days from December 2. The ghee will be the fuel into which the nearly one kilometre long gada cloth - which acts as the wick - will be dipped. The deepam, which will be visible for miles, will be lit inside a huge container set atop a stand and the ghee will be fed manually.

Officials of Aavin Chennai, refuted allegations that the federation was responsible for the hike in the ghee offering rates going up from Rs 200 last year to Rs 400 this year. They said that the federation’s price was Rs.430 per kg of ghee last year as well.
