Vellore district Collector SA Raman, who inaugurated the event at the Town Hall near the old bus stand, was astounded when he was told that Tamilvanan’s collection included 59, 000 stamps from over 220 countries. Raman started on his hobby when he was 11 years and the 31-year-old collection boasted of many first day covers and stamps of many countries, each of which had its own history to reveal.

The day-long exhibition drew a good response from local philatelists, including women, who thronged the venue. Vellore division Postal department Superintendent, K Vijaya, who was also present, said that as a representative of the postal department, she was requested to certify the bonafides of the exercise. “I will do so after going through the collection,” she told the media at the venue.
