CM: TTV Dinakaran not party’s choice for RK Nagar

“Only media thinks that TTV Dinakaran is a great politician. He was not involved in the party affairs for 10 years,” said Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami while speaking to reporters here on Saturday. “Media wants sensational news and that is why Dinakaran is being highlighted,” he added.

When reporters asked the CM, who was returning to Chennai after attending the MGR centenary celebrations in Sivaganga, why he supported Dinakaran’s name for RK Nagar by-poll, Palaniswami said, “Dinakaran announced himself as the candidate, when I was at Salem. I had to accept it in the interest of the party.”

Reacting to Dinakaran’s statement that he and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam were handpicked by him, the Chief Minister said, “I am in the party since 1974. I rose only because of hard work and not because of anyone else.”

The Chief Minister, who reached Madurai on Friday evening, visited Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple on Saturday and garlanded the statue of freedom fighter VO Chidambaram Pillai and greeted the Madurai GRH doctors, who performed a heart transplant surgery for the first time here in the temple city.
