As part of the celebrations, the BJP leader dished out delicacies of several cooked fish items to the participants and the passersby along Marina Beach, where the BJP state unit had also set up a display of wide variety of fresh-fish and the leaders took turns posing with rare varieties of the catch.
Shaming both the regional and the national parties, she said the policies of the previous governments have not done anything but forced the fishermen to venture into the territorial waters of neighbouring Sri Lanka. “They should have formed a long-term alternative model,” she said and added that the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was keen on rolling out the Blue Revolution package, while promoting the alternative deep-sea fishing.
The BJP leader observed that incidence ratio of casualties of fishermen and the firings, which were almost a daily affair during the previous regimes of Congress, had been reduced to nil during the BJP rule.
Tamilisai further said that none of the parties was concerned about the plight of the fishermen and their safety at sea.
“Only the BJP is striving to ensure their welfare in both these aspects,” she added. “The opposition Congress and DMK are busy only in politicising the fishermen’s issues and not keen on doing anything for their betterment,” she charged.
On Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s review in Coimbatore and its ramifications on state autonomy, the BJP leader said the parties speak volumes about state autonomy and force it to be on the back foot. “There was nothing unconstitutional in the Governor’s meeting as it did not infringe upon the state’s autonomy in any manner,” she noted.
