‘Pandakaal’ function held for Thyagaraja Aradhana

The ‘Pandakaal’ function for the 171st Thyagaraja Aradhana festival, which would commence on January 2, 2018, was held in the Thyagarajar Ashram premises at Tiruvaiyaru on Wednesday.

G Rengasamy Mooppanar, president of Thyagabrahma Mahotsava Sabha, Tiruvaiyaru placed the bamboo pole in a pit during the ceremony at the Thyagaraja Ashram where a ‘pandal’ would come up for music performances. 

Earlier on Wednesday, special pooja was performed for Thyagaraja at his cemetery. Special pooja was also performed at the samadhi of Bangalore Nagarathnamma, the singer who was instrumental in making the Aradhana festival a grand success.

GK Vasan, Chairman of trustees of Thiagabrahma Sabha, A Annadurai Collector will participate in the inaugural function. Renowned musicians from all over the country would pay homage to the saint by rendering his compositions on all the five days of the festival. The main function would be held on January 6, Pushya Pagula Panchami day, when musicians would pay homage to Thyagaraja, by singing the Pancha Rat na Keerthanas composed by him.
