Inspection for new road bridge in Pamban under way

As part of laying four ways road between Madurai and Rameswaram, inspection for laying an additional new bridge at Pamban in Ramanthapuram district had been carried out by a team of men from a private consultancy based at Chennai, on Tuesday.

The central government is in the process of expanding the road between Madurai and Rameswaram to four ways and the work is under progress. Recently the National Highways (NH) department had proposed to construct a new road bridge at Pamban and the inspection had already started. 

Earlier, a team from a private company at Hyderabad carried out soil testing and now a team from a private concern at Chennai is carrying out a survey on Pamban road bridge. One of the surveyors said that a new bridge would be constructed on the lines of old bridge. 

Details such as height of the bridge from the sea level, the exact length and width of the bridge hsd been taken in the survey and it would be submitted to the NH department. Later, a team from NH department would carry out another survey and confirm their data. He also said that the new bridge would be constructed on the southern side of the existing road bridge.
