“Our party has decided to join DMK in order to teach a lesson to AIADMK and BJP,” said G Ramakrishnan, state secretary of CPI (M) talking to mediapersons in Coimbatore on Thursday.
The party decided not to contest the bypoll and support DMK at its state co-ordination committee meeting held at Coimbatore. “After the demise of former CM J Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK is dancing to the tunes of BJP under pressure. Also, the state government has also supported various anti-people decisions taken by the BJP on various issues, including NEET, GST and Hindi imposition,” he said.
Further, Ramakrishnan said that the BJP is exploiting AIADMK to gain a foothold in Tamil Nadu. However, the party has decided not to campaign together with DMK. Ramakrishnan also urged to Election Commission to ensure that the by-polls is conducted in a free and fair manner as it was cancelled last time due to large scale distribution of cash to voters to the tune of Rs 89 lakhs.
