Many fishermen from Nagai still missing
Cyclone Ochki has not only affected the Kanniyakumari fishermen but also their Nagapattinam counterparts, as over 500, who had gone for fishing from Kanniyakumari and Kerala, are yet to return to their native villages in the district. While the fishermen associations are in the process of enumerating such migrated fishermen, their relatives have rushed to Kanniyakumari and Kerala.

According to the fishermen representatives from Nagapattinam, the association did a roll call and till Monday evening, they have received information that fishermen from the hamlets like Chanthrapadi, Nambiar Nagar, Keechankuppam, Akkaraipetti, Seruthur, Nagore, Kallar, Thirumullaivasal and Poombuhar had gone to Kanniyakumari and Kerala in their mechanised boats.
According to P Rajendra Nattar, a functionary of fishermen association in Akkaraipettei, during the enumeration process, they found out that, as many as 23 fishermen of Nambiar Nagar, 12 from Nagore, 12 from Kallar, 24 from Thirumullaivoyal and 20 from Poompuhar are still missing.
The relatives have rushed to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College in search of them.
“The exact number of missing fishermen would be found out in a couple of days as the family members are still locating many of the fishermen. At the same time, we also hear that a few have reached Lakshadweep, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Still we fear, there will be more number of missing cases in Nagapattinam district”, Rajendra Nattar added.
