Actor Khushbu Sundar, who debuted in B’wood before entering the Tamil industry, said she was completely shattered by the news of his demise. “I am very, very heartbroken. He was one of the nicest persons you could meet,” she said. “I had worked in a few films with him. There was never a dull moment with him. He would cheer up and say, ‘Chalo. Jaane do’ (Come on, let it go), if anyone walked around with a sad face. The love he showered on everyone on sets was a rare thing for a youngster like me,” she said.

As an actor, Shashi “made the second hero very powerful,” felt Khushbu.

“When you look at Deewar you realise that Amitabh’s role was all the more great due to Shashi’s role. Likewise with Silsila or Trishul. His acting skills were never great, he had his limitations. But he did justice to his roles. One also cannot forget the legacy he left behind in theatre. Prithvi Theatre lives on due to his efforts,” said Khushbu.

Recalling his charm, she said most of the duo’s films were shot in Kashmir. “His complexion would often turn pink. It used to entertain us,” she added. He stayed in touch with everyone although he stopped acting many years ago. Even teens know him,” said Khushbu.

She recalled that with his ‘double teeth’ and infectious smile, young girls thought he was the image of a perfect man. “A few of my cousins said they wanted a husband like him,” she said. Khushbu, who last met him a little over three years ago, said he was not keeping too well, even then. “I have been in constant touch with his nephew Rajiv Kapoor,” she added.
