Support soars for Thirumavalavan

VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan has found friends in self-respect groups and rationalist forums, among others, after a fringe right wing group placed a bounty of Rs 1 crore on him as he had juxtaposed building Hindu temples over Buddhist monasteries in south with the right-wing narrative of Mughals building masjids over temples in north.

Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam general secretary Viduthalai Rajendran slammed the religious fanatics for placing the bounty besides issuing life threats to Thirumavalavan.

“This is TN not UP or Bihar. They should understand this first. He is a leader of the oppressed community. Movements, including ours, Periyarists, progressive outfits, and parties, and several other such like-minded ones would stand with Thirumavalavan,” Rajendran said. He wanted stringent actions taken against those instigating hatred against Thirumavalavan.

Dravida Iyakka Tamilar Peravai led by its leader Prof Suba Veerapandian would stage a public meeting to condemn the fundamentalists that churn out hatred between different religious groups by manipulating the speech of Thiruma. The meeting on Tuesday will be addressed by Kali Poongundran, VP, Dravidar Kazhagam, former Vice-Chancellor A Ramasamy, and Prof A Marx, among others, at West Mambalam.

Tamilar Valvurimai Katchi founder Panruti T Velmurugan who echoed the views of Rajendran wondered as to why only simple sections were invoked in the case against the fringe Hindu outfit man. “The action too comes only after the complaint made by the VCK party cadre. BJP’s backing is the only reason that the arrested Gopinath could make such a proclamation of bounty. BJP leaders – H Raja and Tamilisai Soundararajan were only seeking action against Thirumavalavan instead of chiding Gopinath. Thirumavalavan had explained that his speech in total was an analogy, and the references are limited to the certain events such as demolition of masjid to build temples in Babri and demolition of Buddhist viharas in south,” he said.

Considering the gravity of the threat, Velmurugan urged the invocation of Goondas Act against Gopinath.
