Over 100 kilogram of ganja which was about to be smuggled to Sri Lanka was seized by Customs Department at Nochiyurani beach near Ramanathapuram, on Monday. Based on a tip off sleuths attached to Customs Department waited at the Nochiyurani beach at midnight to nab the smugglers. When they were waiting, four men who were hiding near some boats ran towards a boat in the sea with gunny bags. Customs officials too ran toward them and on seeing them three of them dropped their gunny bags and fled. One of them Karthick, of Ramanathapuram district, was caught and ganja was seized. In the interrogation Karthick revealed details of others who had planned to smuggle ganja to Sri Lanka. He said the trio who had escaped had called him to consume liquor. “Only after reaching the beach I came to know about their smuggling plan,” said Karthick.
