12 workers injured as jeep topples in Nilgiris

Twelve workers were injured after the jeep they were travelling in toppled on the Ooty-Mysore road in Nilgiris on Friday.

Police said twelve persons, including six women, from Anumapuram village near Pykara were engaged in plucking carrots in a nearby estate.

“They had reached the farm early in the morning. The accident happened when the workers were returning home in a jeep after finishing their work,” police said.

It is said that the jeep in which they travelling, suddenly went out of control, while nearing Pykara and toppled.

All the 12 workers suffered injuries and were taken to the Ooty government hospital.

One of the victims, Vaijayanthi, who had suffered serious injuries, has been shifted to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.

Traffic was disrupted on the stretch for about half an hour due to the mishap. Further inquiries are on.
