Ramanathapuram, Courtallam falls and Kanniyakumari and other famous tourist spots were some of the destinations chosen by the tourists for the Christmas holidays not only by people of Tamil Nadu but also by those from Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Dhanushkodi, has been a major crowd puller after the new road inauguration. As it is the best time of the year to visit the island, crowds swelled by the minute at the beach. Unmindful of the risk involved, they bathed and had fun in the rough sea. Policemen who are usually stationed near the sea to warn visitors were absent on Sunday.
But, the tourists were least mindful about keeping the pristine sands off litter. They were seen eating everywhere and plastic covers were found strewn all over the beach at the end of the day.
Similarly, a large number of tourists visited Courtallam falls and took bath at the main falls, five falls and old Courtallam falls. The crowd was more not only because of the extended holidays or half-yearly holidays but also because there had been a ban every now during the North east monsoon and now they are free to enjoy nature’s bounty.
Aiyappa devotees too visited the falls in large numbers. As the Tiruvathirai festival had commenced at the Kutralanathar temple, the devotees also offered special prayers before leaving for Kerala.
Similarly, there were a large number of footfalls at Tiruparappu waterfalls, Muttom and Thottipalam in Kanniyakumari district.
