Speaking to reporters after paying homage to Velu Nachiyar on the occasion of her 221st death anniversary near Sivaganga, Raja said money had won in RK Nagar. He alleged that cash was distributed to the voters systematically over the months. “With such a strategy, they can win only in a single constituency, not in all the seats in the state,” he noted.

“Dinakaran can’t claim credit for this victory. His win is like a shooting star which will fall anytime. Just a temporary phenomenon,” said Raja.

He further promised to put pressure on the Centre and state to include the history of Velu Nachiyar in the school syllabus.

Meanwhile, in Madurai, another senior BJP leader and MP Ela Ganesan urged the state to allow Navodaya schools to function in the state to benefit the poor people.

He said that the state government should not oppose the schools just because Hindi is being taught in them.

Participating in various functions across Madurai on Monday, Ganesan presided over the distribution of free LPG connections to those with poor economic background.

Commenting on the RK Nagar by-election results, the BJP MP said, “Many predicted a win for the DMK in the bypoll, because of the split in the AIADMK. But, the predictions have failed and the DMK too fared miserably in the by-election.”

Say no to NOTA: BJP

BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan and cadre celebrated the birthday of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Chennai on Monday

Tamilisai urged voters not to press the NOTA button, when they can select any one of the capable candidates in the fray

She questioned why the DMK had failed to poll enough votes to retain deposit. She also reiterated that the by-election was won by distribution of cash to voters.
